Bartók's six Romanian Folk Dances were originally written for piano solo in 1915. Zoltan Szekely arranged them for violin and piano and then Kalman Berkes subsequently arranged that version for clarinet and piano, altering the keys for certain movements. Each brief dance uses a melody from a different region of Romanian/Transylvania, which would have originally been played on a fiddle or shepherd's flute.
