Jean-Baptiste Bréval (1753-1823) was a French cellist and composer.

He composed six cello concertos as well as writing an important treatise on cello design and pedagogy.

However, he is perhaps best known for his cello sonata in C major, which has become a staple of the cello student repertoire. Piano accompaniment tracks for Breval’s Cello Sonata in C, Op.40 No.1 can be found on this website. A link can be found below.
