Dmitri Shostakovich
Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975) was a Russian composer and pianist, born in St Petersburg.
He is considered one of the leading composers of the 20th century, his fifteen symphonies and string quartets have become key parts of their repertoires. While many of his works can be fierce and bombastic, he was also capable of writing tender and heartfelt melodies.
