Gabriel Fauré composed his first Cello Sonata in 1917. The first movement has a tight rhythmic energy, while the second is more meditative and reaches a sense of tranquillity by the end of the movement. In contrast the third movment is a moto perpetuo with non-stop semiquavers in the piano part.
