Hummel's Fantasie Op.94 is a staple part of the viola repertoire. Hummel originally wrote a 'Potpourri' in 1820 for viola and orchestra, featuring melodies from popular contemporary composers of the time including Mozart and Rossini, interspersed with a substantial fugue. The Fantasie known today omits a few elements of the original work but most of the melodic elements remain.
