John Rutter wrote his Suite Antique in 1979, originally for flute, harpsichord and string orchestra. It is a highly popular work for flautists to learn, as it comprises six very approachable movements which are not too difficult. The mournful Prelude and Aria in particular are often played separately, while the jazzy waltz is an audience pleaser.
