Richard Strauss' Oboe Concerto was one of the final pieces he wrote, in 1945, after reaching his 80th birthday. It has three movements which are linked by bridging passages and also by underlying thematic and rhythmic ideas. It holds a key place in the concerto repertory for oboists.
